  2. Where it is located (city, state, country): South Miami, Florida, USA

  3. Why you chose this organization (community or city need) - 1/2 or 1 page including APA references: I chose this organization to take place in Miami because it is my hometown. The organization will take place specifically in Coconut Grove which is an area in miami where several elementary and middle schools are located. There are certain areas of Coconut Grove which are underserved and impoverished. The goal of Artful Horizons is to grant access to high-quality arts education to underprivileged children in Miami. Many children in these lower-income communities struggle to gain access to the creative arts and it is difficult for them to find opportunities to be creative and learn about art. My organization will strive to provide a free, after school arts program where children in grades kindergarten through eighth grade can practice creative self expression. We will have programs such as dance, arts and crafts, music, and theater to create an atmosphere where the children feel free to express themselves and develop their artistic talents. We will also reach out to local high schools for volunteers, to help the students meet their service hour requirements. The goal is to create a nurturing, supportive environment where children can focus on their academics, make new friends, build confidence and let their imagination free.
